How Jordan Ablett knew something wasn't right with son

Jordan Ablett has revealed the moment she realised something “wasn’t right” with son Levi, who has since been diagnosed with a rare degenerative condition.

Jordan, who is married to Geelong champion Gary, said she knew something was off during a photo shoot for Levi following his first birthday in March 2020.

In a social media post, Jordan revealed the photographer kept asking her if Levi could stand/sit. When she said he couldn't, she started thinking ‘this isn’t right’.

When I attempted to get him into a standing position he wouldn’t put any weight through his legs at all, he was super floppy in all positions, had really poor head control and for the most part (if not the entire time) kept his hands clenched tight.

The Abletts, who welcomed a daughter Grace in November, have revealed Levi, 3, has a short life expectancy with the diagnosis.

Jordan also told the Herald Sun in April that he doesn’t speak and medical experts have said it was highly unlikely he would ever talk.

It was news that would rattle any first-time parents, but the Abletts have not only bravely adapted to their new world, they have also shared it publicly as they support and uplift others.

Jordan urged parents to seek help from medical professionals if they have even the smallest concerns about the health of their children.

Jordan, who was an ambassador for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal this year, said it was important parents were comfortable seeking help.
