Blood and bodies: Australia's deadliest bikie battles

BIKIES INC

Bashings, shootings and murders involving members of rival bikie gangs have left a trail of carnage across the country.

These are some of the bloodiest bikie battles to have erupted in Australia.

Milperra Massacre (1984)

On Father’s Day in 1984, a vicious brawl between the Comanchero and Bandidos unfolded in the car park of the Viking Tavern in the Sydney suburb of Milperra.

The brawl, involving about 30 members of both gangs, broke out about 1pm during a motorcycle swap meet outside the pub.

According to news reports at the time, those involved came heavily armed with chains, knives, baseball bats and machetes.

By the time it was all over, seven people lay dead — six bikies and a teenage girl who had been selling raffle tickets outside the tavern.

Ballroom Blitz (2006)

On March 18, 2006 a brawl broke out between warring members of the Finks and Hells Angels in the grand ballroom of a luxury resort on the Gold Coast.

The Courier Mail reported about 15 Hells Angels were at the venue for a kickboxing tournament when 43 members of the Finks stormed the ballroom, causing spectators to flee as the violence kicked off.

Five people were injured during the melee, including Hells Angel member and former Fink Christopher Wayne Hudson, who was shot in the back and jaw.

Sydney Airport (2009)

Tensions between the Comanchero and Hells Angels were already high before an unusual set of circumstances saw the deadly Sydney Airport brawl kick off.

Angels president Derek Wainohu had found himself seated uncomfortably close to the then-Comanchero president Mick Hawi and four gang underlings on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

Over the course of a tense flight, both men made arrangements for reinforcements to meet them when the plane landed at Sydney Airport.

The leaders clashed after exiting the gate but the worst violence erupted in Terminal 3 where rival gang members confronted each other.

During the brawl, Anthony Zervas, brother of then-Hells Angels member Peter Zervas, was killed when the base of a bollard was rammed into him.
