What we know about GOT prequel: 
House of the Dragon
Game of Thrones fans rejoice. An Australian release date of August 22 has been confirmed for the highly anticipated prequel series, House of the Dragon.
The launch date reveal also comes as HBO released fresh photos from House of the Dragon, which will air  on Binge and Foxtel. Here’s what we know about the show so far.
House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and will detail the peak of the Targaryen empire in Westeros.
When is it set?
The series will chronicle the events surrounding the Dance of the Dragons, which is the name given to the civil war that broke out among the Targaryens over succession of the Iron Throne.
Matt Smith of Dr Who fame is playing the key role of Prince Daemon Targaryen, while Olivia Cooke has been cast as Alicent Hightower.
Who's in it?
Also in the show are Emma D’Racy (Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) and Paddy Considine (King Viserys).
Yes! In a recent blog post, Game of Thrones author George RR Martin said: “I can say that there will be dragons. Everyone else has said that, so why not me?”
Will there be dragons?
While Game of Thrones had many filming locations such as Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland, House of the Dragon is shot mainly in the UK.
Where's it filmed?
The Warner Bros Leavesden Studio in Watford is the main base of operations, while many of the show’s exterior shots have been filmed in Cornwall and Devon.
There are 10 episodes in the first series. HBO/HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys told IndieWire that it’s almost certain the show will have more than one season.
