Halo saves driver's life in multi-car collision

The start of the British Grand Prix was marred by a massive high-speed multi-car collision which saw Zhou Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo skidding upside down through a gravel trap.

The race was restarted an hour later, using the same order with the exception of Zhou, Williams’ Alex Albon and George Russell of Mercedes.

During the red-flag stoppage, climate activists staged a sit-down protest on the circuit before being removed, with police making arrests.

On the restart, Sergio Perez surged past Lewis Hamilton, while eventual winner Carlos Sainz overtook Charles Leclerc in a thrilling scrap.

Leclerc felt as if he was the victim of Ferrari’s tyre strategy that ultimately benefited Sainz.
