‘SULKING’ HAMILTON MAY CONSIDER ‘SWITCHING TEAMS', HAKKINEN CLAIMS

Two-time Formula One world champion Mika Hakkinen feels Lewis Hamilton would be “sulking” during team meetings and perhaps even thinking about a move away from Mercedes after the team’s early struggles.

— Mika Hakkinen

From the opening three races of the 2022 season, Hamilton sits in fifth place in the driver standings with 28 points, 43 points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton also sits behind his Mercedes teammate George Russell, with the 24-year-old second with 37 points in his first season with the Silver Arrows after moving over from Williams.

The seven-time world champ has not had a second-place finish in the opening three races for the first time since 2013, with much of the blame put on Mercedes’ W13 struggling with porpoising issues.

Whether the early woes continue throughout the season remains to be seen, but Hakkinen feels that Hamilton must be prepared for a “really difficult” campaign to come.

But with the less-than-ideal finishes so far, Hakkinen believes things won’t exactly be rosy behind the scenes for Mercedes.
