A “significant physical incident” at a southeastern suburbs train station has caused an after school scare, prompting an elite college to direct students to seek alternative ways home.

Wesley College advised students to stay on school grounds and discouraged them from catching the train home on Tuesday afternoon, after a fight broke out between a group of people at Elsternwick train station.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were called to the physical altercation on Glenhuntly Rd about 2.55pm.

“One person was treated by ambulance staff at the scene for minor injuries,” she said.

“No official reports have been made to police at this stage.

“It is believed the parties are known to one another.”

The incident prompted Wesley College Head of Campus Jacinta Janssens to issue an “urgent safety message” to families at 3pm.

“It has been reported to us that a significant physical incident involving many young people is occurring at the Elsternwick Train Station,” the message said.

“We will be letting our students know that they are not to be in the vicinity of this area and anywhere near the corner of Nepean and Glenhuntly Rd.

“They are to wait on campus until alternative ways of getting home have been communicated by their parents. We will be here to support.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics responded to calls of an incident in Elsternwick about 3pm but no emergency transport was provided.
