Relieved VCE English students celebrated the end of their first exam, sharing memes and jokes about images, prompts and questions.
“NGL (not going to lie) kinda easy” summed up the feelings of many, after they finished the compulsory exam at 12.15pm on Tuesday.
Another said “Thanks VCAA for those amazing prompts, you deserve a kiss”.
Others called it “majestic” and “peak”.
Students preparing their answers on the basis of a fake English test paper circulating before the exam were disappointed.
Students across the state were alerted on Monday to a fake exam paper circulating as the VCE English examination paper. “Students are advised that this paper is not real. If students receive a fake exam paper, they should report it to the school so it can be reported to the VCAA”.
The students declared they were “ecstatic” that the exam was over, with many taking to TikTok to celebrate.
Students across Victoria posted dozens of videos including celebrating in the McDonald’s car park and doing dances.
“Post English exam feels,” said one thrilled year 12 pupil.
Another student, who was dancing, said “never been so happy in my life”.
After the gruelling three-hour exam, students exchanged memes about the protest section, Sunset Boulevard prompts and a question about an ailing business called Our Local Gym being rescued by a lolly shop.
“I hope Sandy Gestalt’s gym dies,” one said, referring to the fictional gym’s owner.
Section B, which was the most different from previous years, asked students to create a piece of writing inspired by one of four framework ideas (country, protest, personal journey or play). Students were given four generic images of arrows on the ground, dominoes being pushed over, a child and parent walking and a flying light bulb, along with one-line stimulus prompts about caterpillars, Father William and channelling energy.
Of course, not all students were happy, with one posting: I’m going to cry. What are those Rainbow End prompts and I didn’t even finish part b”. And another said: “I’m cooked”.
Another said: “I think I did good but it’s not my best work”.
And another: “May God save the king because nothing will save the Governor-General year 12 students of Victoria.
Rion Ahl, co-founder of tutoring company 50Coach and a former VCE student who got 50 for English and a 99.95 ATAR, congratulated students on their efforts.
“Now that the English exam is over, it’s time to pack up all that knowledge, retire it and move on to the rest of your exams which will make up the majority of your ATAR score.” “Looking back won’t help you fight forward through exam season.”
Students tomorrow will sit a range of language exams, along with Visual Communication and English Language. Economics, Biology and Literature are later in the week.
