Revealed: Regional Victoria’s schools with the best NAPLAN results

An independent analysis of five years of NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which consistently performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests between 2017 and 2021.
Over that five-year period, Ballarat Clarendon College, in Ballarat, had higher Year 5 yearly results than any other school in the regional Victoria, scoring an average of 2850.3 each year.
St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar in Berwick was the second best for the region with an average score of 2737.5, while The Kilmore International School in Kilmore was the third best with an average score of 2718.8.
The highest scoring public primary school in Year 5 NAPLAN results was Marysville Primary School, where there are currently just 49 students across prep to grade six.
The school scored 2,697 over the five years.
Meanwhile, the top performing Year 9 school was Nossal High School, in Berwick, where the average yearly result was 3358.0 over the five years.
The school was the state’s first fully academically selective coeducational government high school, and is one of only four academically selective high schools in Victoria.
Ballarat Clarendon College in Ballarat was the second best for the region with an average score of 3273.0, while St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar in Berwick was the third best with an average score of 3133.3.
To determine how each school performed between 2017 and 2021, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
