Parramatta NAPLAN results: James Ruse, Girraween among best high schools

Perennial performer James Ruse Agricultural High School is western Sydney’s top performing NAPLAN high school while fellow selective school Girraween ranked third in the region.

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in year 9 tests.

The top performing secondary school was James Ruse, where the average result was 730.8.

Baulkham Hills High School was the second best for the region, which includes The Hills, with an average score of 708.8, while Girraween High School was the third best with an average score of 687.4.

Nine out of the top 20 high schools from western Sydney were from the Parramatta and Cumberland areas.

Carlingford High School was ranked 11th – behind the exclusive The King’s School which sat in 16th spot.

Across NSW, James Ruse was ranked second in NSW behind Holsworthy High School in southwest Sydney, while selective school Girraween High ranked 12th.

The NAPLAN results follow stellar HSC results for James Ruse, which was the best performing school for the 26th consecutive year.

The school is at Carlingford, where some of the state’s brightest students are educated.

Not only did the suburb feature in the state’s top secondary schools but was also prominent in western Sydney’s top 10 primary school rankings.

Carlingford West and Murray Farm public schools at Carlingford were third and 10th best in the region. Nearby North Rocks Public School was the second best in the region and 10th best in the state.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (years 5 and 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.

Tangara School for Girls: 632.8

Parramatta High School: 632.0

Montgrove College, Orchard Hills: 629.6
