Mornington Peninsula’s most expensive private school has topped the regions NAPLAN results, scoring in the top 30 for the state.

Girl’s school Toorak College — where parents fork out than $31,000 annually for tuition — had the highest scores for both primary and secondary education.

Peninsula Grammar, who ranked second for primary scores and third for secondary scores, also costs top dollar for tuition, with six years of education costing more than $200,000.

Government primary schools faired better than secondary schools against their private counterparts.

Six government primary schools ranked in the top eight NAPLAN scores for the region while only two secondary schools did.

Dromana Secondary College was the highest ranking public high school, excelling in all areas aside from spelling.

Spelling scores tanked school’s results across the Mornington Peninsula, with a number of schools results significantly lower than 2023 results.

Schools in Somerville were the lowest ranked schools in the area with Somerville Rise Primary School and Somerville Secondary College both scoring well below other schools.

To determine how each school performed in 2024, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort – Year 5 or Year 9 – were combined and the average found.

Students are tested on the reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy skills.
