Catholic schoolgirls from Melbourne can be revealed as those responsible for a cruel TikTok mocking the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne.

Girls from year 11 at Mount St Joseph Girls’ College in Altona filmed the clip, which they then posted on Facebook, where it attracted much negative reaction before being removed.

In the clip one girl says “Liam Payne died” then another replies “funny joke” before pretending to jump off a balcony on school grounds. Another student then poses as an accident victim, lying on the stairs below.

The singer, 31, fell from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel on Wednesday evening, prompting a global outpouring of grief from the band’s many fans.

The school’s principal Kate Dishon wrote to parents on Friday telling them about the “inappropriate and offensive TikTok which has been created by some of our students, in relation to the recent death of the One Direction member Liam Payne”.

“We are addressing this serious issue with the students involved and want to assure you that their actions do not reflect the values of the MSJ community. We are continuing to work with our students about their responsibilities with regards to their use of social media and the impact that social media posts have on others,” she wrote.

It is understood the girls involved are very sorry for their actions.
