Bikie investigators have released CCTV in which shots are heard and a BMW races past as Mongols bikie Shane Bowden is hit by gunfire.
Bowden, 47, was wounded on July 1 as he stood talking to two men in the driveway of a home at Epping, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Members of the anti-bikie echo taskforce are looking for those in the BMW coupe.
Bowden has since been punted from the Mongols in a major fall from grace with the feared outlaw motorcycle gang.
Just 15 days earlier, a contingent of members on bikes and with a stretch limousine brought him back to Melbourne.
Bowden was taken to hospital in an ambulance after being wounded in last week’s on Young St, which happened at 7.40pm.
No one else was injured.
The Mongols have been a high-profile outlaw motorcycle gang player in Melbourne over the past 18 months.
Former Bandido strongman Toby Mitchell joined the gang last year.
One of its members, Rocco Curra, survived an attempted hit in which he was shot nine times in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs last year.
Two Mongols are in custody after being charged in January over the EastLink Freeway hit on fruiterer Paul Virgona last November.
There have been a number of tit-for-tat drive-by shootings and firebombings with suspected links to Mongols conflict with the rival Finks outfit.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said detectives were still working to work out the motive for the Bowden shooting.
They have appealed for anyone who recognises the BMW or saw it in the area at the time of the shooting to come forward.
