Weapons, drugs seized during Moomba arrests

A dozen people were arrested at the Moomba Festival last night, with police seizing weapons and drugs as youths gathered in the city.

Police have arrested 12 people last night during Moomba Festival celebrations.

As part of Operation Omni police seized eight weapons and arrested five people for drug possession.

A police spokesperson said a total of 204 searches were conducted.

The ages of the individuals arrested are not known.

Last year gangs of youths repeatedly clashed in the city during the festival, and 20 youths were arrested.

Victoria Police Commander Tim Hansen said earlier this week that police would run a special operation to ensure a safe event for everyone.
