Disturbing footage has emerged of a violent brawl at a Victorian secondary school, with dozens of students seemingly involved or watching on.
Video of the schoolyard fight shows vicious punches being thrown and one boy can be heard shouting “get him … go boys”, while girls scream and some students appear to try to drag others to safety.
Boys are seen climbing onto and over lunch tables to join the fight, in terrifying scenes resembling a prison brawl.
Some female students also appear visibly distressed by the violence.
What appears to be school security officers are later seen intervening and trying to break up the fight, involving students in what appears to be the distinctive teal, orange, black and white patterned uniform of Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
It comes as police were called to the school’s Wanganui campus after reports of students fighting, about 11.50am on Friday.
A teenager was taken to the Goulburn Valley Health hospital with head injuries after the mass brawl, which involved up to 10 youths.
Police confirmed “a number of people suffered injuries”.
Police have launched an investigation and no charges have been laid.
The school’s executive principal, Barbara O’Brien, confirmed “incidents of unacceptable behaviour” had taken place at the Wanganui campus at recess on Friday and earlier in the week.
She said that “misinformation” on social media had “exaggerated the seriousness and scale of incidents” and had exacerbated the situation.
“In all other aspects, Term 1 continues to progress very smoothly across our three campuses,” she said.
Ms O’Brien said the school was taking “immediate steps to bring this behaviour to a halt”.
“Incidents of violence and bullying are completely unacceptable, contrary to the values of Greater Shepparton Secondary College and will not be tolerated.”
The college, which was created in 2020 by merging four Shepparton schools together, has been a source of some controversy in the community.
