Suspected Hosier Lane street art vandals unmasked in footage

Footage of a group of eight young men who allegedly vandalised Hosier Lane has been caught on dashcam. It shows a group carrying fire extinguishers and bags and walking away from Flinders St.

More video footage of the alleged Hosier Lane vandals has emerged as the police investigation continues.

A group of eight young men carrying fire extinguishers and bags believed to be the culprits can be seen walking on to the Batman Ave Bridge from Flinders St.

The footage from a vehicle’s rear camera was taken on Saturday evening just minutes after people wearing masks blasted the street art precinct with paint, defacing murals and damaging cobblestones.

In the video obtained by the H erald Sun the youths are not wearing masks.

Victoria Police also released CCTV footage of the suspects.

A police statement said it was believed that the group fled the scene towards Melbourne Park.

The damage was done at about 7.25pm last Saturday.

“Anyone who can identify the group or with any other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au,” the statement said.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said there was significant damage Hosier Lane, and she wanted to thank the person who submitted video to the Herald Sun.

“We don’t want this sort of anti-social behaviour continuing in our city. It’s unsightly and costs ratepayers to clean up,” she said.

“We support street art, but there should be consequences for vandalism that damages City of Melbourne assets and property.”
