An alleged car thief was assaulted and another man stabbed in a separate incident after a spate of violence broke out in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs overnight.

A suspected car thief was assaulted in a suburban warehouse and another man stabbed in a night of violence in Melbourne’s southeast.
Police responded to reports a man had been assaulted at an industrial site on Osbourne Ave, Clayton South just before 2.50am this morning.
It is understood three men attacked the victim, a 43-year-old homeless man, as he entered the warehouse and stole a Volkswagen Passat.

Two other cars were stolen from the premises, police believe.
About the same time another man, aged 38 from Clayton South, took himself to hospital in Clayton with stab wounds.

He remains in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
