Teen left with fractured skull after violent stabbing

The shocking moment a teenager was stabbed over his jacket has been captured on CCTV, with the 15-year-old knifed in daylight close to a popular Melbourne walking trail.

Six teens have been arrested over the stabbing in Mordialloc on January 24. 

 

It is alleged a 15-year-old boy was approached by a number of unknown youths on Main Street when they made demands for his Tommy Hilfiger jumper before assaulting him about 2.30pm.

The boy received a stab wound and serious head injuries and remains in hospital. 

All parties are known to each other.

Detectives arrested six teenagers this morning.

A 17-year-old  boy has been charged and remanded with robbery and intentionally cause injury an will appear at a children’s court today.

A 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old  girl have all been charged and bailed with robbery and intentionally cause injury.

They will all appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl have been released pending further enquiries.

The 15-year-old boy was walking near Mordialloc Creek after leaving Mordialloc train station about 2.30pm on Friday January 24 when a young couple approached him and demanded his jacket.

They allegedly stabbed him when he tried to escape.

A witness told the Sunday Herald Sun: “I came out and have seen the ambulance there.”

“There have been all sorts of incidents here,’’ the witness said. “It has been a nightmare.

“There is a lot of teenagers mucking around and involved in petty crime.”

The witness said the area was a hotspot for troublemaking youths.

“They get underneath the train bridge there and do graffiti and sniff glue,’’ they said.

“There are all sorts of incidents."

The effect of the assault is also being felt by the local Mordialloc community.

Lachy Henry, a worker at local surf store Mordy Surf, said the attack could cause parents of young teens to worry.

“It could make parents more worried about letting their kids out”, he said.

“People might feel a bit more nervous … it is just really sad.”

Local resident Adriana Tomaino said the stabbing made her feel unsafe in her own suburb.

“I cannot be as trusting with people in my local community”, she said.

Police revealed the 15-year-old victim also suffered a fractured skull during the ordeal.

“His family are quite concerned”, Sgt Lewis said.
