The speeding Porsche driver who allegedly filmed a policewoman as she lay dying in the Eastern Freeway tragedy has lost all bravado in prison.
Foul-mouthed multi-millionaire Richard Pusey was all fight when he entered custody in April.
But since losing his bid for freedom, he has become a meek “cell-dweller” no longer up for conflict.
His dramatic jailhouse transformation has been revealed by prison sources who believe the reality of his actions have finally caught up with him.
“He knows the more he plays up the harder his jail time will be,” a prison source said.
The 41-year-old mortgage broker was hard to manage the moment he entered protective custody at Melbourne Assessment Prison.
Insiders said he would call police and prison officers “dogs” and spent his time compiling a “dossier” about his treatment in custody and why he should be freed on bail.
His hopes were dashed last month when a court ruled his release would pose an unacceptable risk to the community.
Since then he has gone quiet, barely leaving his cell or speaking to those caged near him.
“He does not mix or talk to anyone,” the prison source said.
Pusey has a lot of enemies and was renowned for his dealings with construction and local government figures.
In one of his worst exchanges he yelled “I hope you f---ing die” to the cancer-stricken wife of a tradesman in a dispute over money.
Pusey and his wife, Anh Truong, hold a $12 million property portfolio, which includes their trendy Fitzroy home where the police-hating message “How’s get f----d sound, pig c---?” was written at the front entrance.
Few have shown support for Pusey, whose parents have even abandoned him and were “disgusted” by his actions in the freeway tragedy.
Weeks ago a court heard how he had “fantasised about killing people” prior to the crash.
He was on bail and allegedly high on ice when his Porsche was pulled over travelling 149km/h on the freeway on April 22.
Moments later a refrigerated truck ploughed into and killed responding officers Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Josh Prestney and Constable Glen Humphris.
Pusey allegedly taunted the dying officers, filming their cries for help before fleeing the scene.
The Herald Sun last month revealed the truck driver, Mohinder Singh, claimed he had seen a “witch” before swerving across the road and into the officers.
Pusey will next appear in court on July 16.
