A newborn baby girl who was found dead at Seaford beach was probably left there between 7am and 5pm on Monday.

Police investigating the death of the baby have narrowed down the time frame when they believe the girl was left at Seaford beach.

Victoria Police said yesterday investigators were searching for the mother and hold serious concerns for her health and welfare.

They are appealing for the woman to contact police as soon as possible.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said investigators “want to reiterate that her wellbeing is the primary focus of the investigation”.

The remains of the baby girl were found by a passer-by on the beach, next to Nepean Highway, about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The umbilical cord and placenta were both present with the body.

Floral tributes and a teddy bear were left on Thursday at the Seaford beach entrance near where the remains were found.

Mourners had written in chalk at the scene: “RIP Angel, fly high.”
