An anti-lockdown protester who allegedly struck a police horse with a pole has been charged with a string of offences.

Police issued a pre-dawn search warrant in Narre Warren South on Wednesday morning.

They arrested a 40-year-old man at the scene.

Detectives have charged the man with animal cruelty and a number of other offences including affray, reckless conduct, possessing a prohibited weapon and the storing of unauthorised explosives.
