The school where a Mornington Peninsula teacher faces multiple child sex offences has moved to support students over the “extremely serious and concerning” charges.

Western Port Secondary College has stood down teacher Locksley Christy, 25, who faces three charges relating to a child under 16.

The Department of Education confirmed that since the allegations against Christy came to light, “the staff member is no longer working in any school”.

“Support is available for, and has been offered to, staff and students at the school,” a department spokeswoman said.

“The safety of students is always the Department’s top priority. These charges are extremely serious and concerning.”

It’s understood Christy had in January returned an all clear on a national criminal record check, which is a requirement for earning a full teaching registration from a provisional licence.

Just weeks later, Victoria Police moved in and charged him with multiple child offences dating back six months.

The Capel Sound man was charged with grooming a child under 16 for sexual conduct, involving a child in the production of child abuse material, and using a carriage service to transmit indecent communication to a child under 16.

The allegations relate to the Greater Mornington Peninsula area from September 2020 to February this year.

It’s understood he was charged in February by detectives from the Frankston Sexual Offences and Child abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT), and immediately had his ability to teach removed.

Christy has been bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on November 26.

His provisional teachers’ registration was suspended on an interim basis by the Victorian Institute of Teaching on February 16.

Christy’s lawyers, Dribbin & Brown Criminal Lawyers, were contacted for comment.
