Multiple police cars have been rammed and two men arrested after a chase in Melbourne’s north overnight.
Police were called about 4.10am this morning after a Nissan Navara ute was spotted with a blown tyre and a sparking rim on the Eastern Freeway.
Officers patrolled the area and found the vehicle on Greensborough Rd a short time later.
They followed the ute — which police allege was stolen and travelling at about 40kmh — from a distance before it crossed onto the wrong side of the road near Simpson Barracks.
Officers then tried to intercept the ute but the driver refused to pull over, sparking the chase.
Victoria Police Leading Senior Constable Adam West said the vehicle then allegedly hit a number of police cars.
“The ute was followed on to the Western Ring Road and it’s alleged the driver hit a number of police cars,” he said.
“The Nissan exited at Edgars Rd and attempted to get back onto the Ring Road by going the wrong way down an off-ramp.
“Police managed to stop the allegedly stolen ute and arrested the male driver and passenger.”
The men arrested at the scene in Thomastown and are both assisting police with their inquiries.
Two damaged police cars and the red-coloured ute remain at the scene this morning, the latter of which can be seen with a collapsed front.
