Man stabbed before early-morning South Melbourne car theft

A violent attacker added insult to injury after stabbing a man in South Melbourne, then stealing the victim’s car and fleeing the scene.

A violent offender is on the run after a man was stabbed and had his car stolen in South Melbourne on Monday.

Police are investigating after a 32-year-old South Melbourne man was stabbed on Smith St about 6am.

The assailant stole the victim’s blue Hyundai Elantra and fled the scene.

It is unknown what weapon was used in the attack or if the parties were known to one another.

The man has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing.
