The owner of a popular dumpling bar has been identified as the man murdered in his Templestowe Lower home on Friday night.
Vincent Chi, 57, the owner of China Bar at Northland Shopping Centre, was found dead in his Michael St property about 11.15pm.
The father of three’s youngest son made the gruesome discovery and called police.
His daughter told the Sunday Herald Sun it was a “very sad time” for the family, but would not comment further.
Detective Sergeant Sol Solomon of the homicide squad said Mr Chi had died “a very violent death”.
“We have a man killed in his own home under very violent circumstances. It’s extremely disturbing,” he said.
Sgt Solomon confirmed a weapon had been used in the vicious attack, but would not give details. He said police had been called by the man’s adult son.
Graeme Floody, who lives next door, said Mr Chi was “a perfect neighbour”.
“We never heard much from there — I used to mow the nature strip when it got too long but that’s about the extent of our interaction,” he said.
Another neighbour said Mr Chi was a softly spoken and polite man.
Teresa Scilipoti, who lives several houses away, said Mr Chi’s murder had been a shock. “I walk the dog around here all the time and never see or hear anything from that house,” she said.
