A woman charged with stabbing multimillionaire businessman Peter Gantidis at his Williamstown home last week has been remanded in custody until May.

Kim Findlay, 47, was arrested in Rockbank, in Melbourne’s west, on Wednesday.

She is accused of breaking into Mr Gantidis’ house and carrying out the frenzied attack about 1.30am last Thursday.

Mr Gantidis went downstairs to investigate and was allegedly stabbed multiple times in a frenzied attack by the would-be burglar.

Mr Gantidis was critically injured but his condition has since improved and he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

His elderly mother Dimitra, aged in her 80s, was at home at the time of the aggravated burglary but did not witness the attack.

Ms Findlay, from Altona Meadows, was charged with aggravated burglary, intentionally causing serious injury and other assault-related offences.

She did not appear for her virtual court hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday night and there was no application for bail entered on her behalf.

The court heard Ms Findlay was being represented by Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service.

Court documents show she allegedly used a knife and a multi-tool to attack Mr Gantidis after forcing her way into his home.

Mr Gantidis is a well known businessman and his two-storey property overlooks the bay with CBD views, and is considered as one of Williamstown’s most exclusive addresses.

His father Peter Gantidis Sr founded the popular Melbourne River Cruises, a company which describes itself as “one of the most experienced companies on the Yarra River”.

Last week police from Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit alleged the woman gained entry to the home via an upstairs window.

“The male occupant disturbed her inside (the house), she produced a weapon, a struggle has occurred between the two of them,” Detective Sergeant Mark Drane said.

“It would be daunting and scary for any of those people inside the house, the male occupant woke and found someone in his house – that would be traumatic for him. It would be traumatic for every occupant.

Ms Findlay is due to reappear for a committal mention on May 5.
