A gruesome stabbing involving two housemates in Ascot Vale is being investigated by police.
A temporary resident, aged 32, allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab her 32-year-old male housemate at Dragon Village accommodation on Epsom Rd on Saturday afternoon.
Property manager Walter Wu heard the man’s cries and rushed to help.
The woman, still armed, then turned on him, he claimed.
“I am a strong man but I was so scared,” said Mr Wu.
“I won’t forget the look in her eyes …”
Disturbing crime scene photos obtained by the Herald Sun show pools of blood inside the room where the attack unfolded.
A chair appears up-ended and blood splatter on the hall way.
Another CCTV image shows the woman holding a knife and a Coles bag as she approaches a man outside the sharehouse.
The attack occurred inside the female’s room.
Police believe no offence was committed against her and did not shed light on what sparked the attack.
Mr Wu said she was a temporary resident, arriving on Monday for a week stay.
She did not provide identification, as is required for tenants, he said.
Instead her friend, the victim and long-term resident, said he was responsible for her and she was permitted to move in.
“They told me she had lost everything (ID) and he would pay for her,” said Mr Wu.
Mr Wu said he emerged from his residence covered with blood to his face, hands and chest.
He believed the man had been stabbed to the neck and face, but police would not confirm.
“The blood was dropping all over the ground,” said Mr Wu.
“The lady came out and I told her to put the knife down and she said no.
“It made me very scared.
Mr Wu said he rushed onto Epsom Rd to phone police.
He eventually managed to call police, who arrested the woman on Charles St, about 500m from the scene.
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries in the attack and was last night fighting for life at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
His condition has improved and he is now listed as being in a stable condition.
The woman was also taken to hospital.
Local woman Laura Di Battista was working in Frankie’s Pizza on Epsom Rd when the incident occurred.
She revealed her horror when she saw a woman walk by covered in blood.
She told the Herald Sun: “I saw her casually strolling past the shop covered in blood. She had a Coles bag covered in blood – she was acting like there was nothing wrong.
“I had no idea what was going on. I was watching her as she was walking down and then I saw all the cops come down.”
“Nothing this major [ever happens] we still get a few random things happen but nothing like this,” Ms Di Battista said.
“Normally I’m by myself in the shop, luckily it’s a weekend and there are other people working.
“It’s very scary, I live just down that street and I walk home sometimes.”
Before being arrested, it’s understood that the woman knocked on the doors of neighbours living across the street from the scene of the stabbing.
Rochelle Adams, who lives just a few doors down from the crime scene, said it was a usually “really quite neighbourhood”.

“There’s quite a lot of traffic because Epsom Road is a busy road but things like this don’t really happen around here,” Ms Adams said.
“It’s very family orientated and there are a lot of kids, it’s quite scary really. We’re a young household.
“It’s quite confronting, when I drove in I didn’t really know what was going on. It’s on both sides of us too – one side is taped off and so is the other.
Ms Adams added: “We get a lot of foot traffic here – it’s very busy, there’s always a lot of pedestrians no matter what time of day or night.
“You usually safe because there is so much traffic but not so much now.”
Dragon Village is a low cost accommodation and sharehouse provider catered to students and long term residents.
