Police have charged a man over the grisly killing of Michael Mammone, whose body was found dumped next to a Cranbourne primary school.
Homicide squad detectives charged a 42-year-old Carrum Downs man with murder and armed robbery on Thursday morning.
The man will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court shortly.
Mr Mammone, 47, from Cranbourne East, was found dead in a reserve next to Rangebank Primary School on June 26.
His hands were bound and investigators had appealed for his missing car in connection to his killing.
The father’s silver 2008 BMW sedan was later found in Cranbourne.
Mr Mammone’s devastated daughter wrote on Facebook: “This day is what we’ve been waiting for tirelessly”.
“It’s been 29 days of the unknown, 29 days of endless questions, of heartache and struggle.
“We finally have an arrest on the person who did this to our dad, but this is far from over and we have a very, very long road ahead of us.”
Ms Mammone, one of the victim’s three daughters, thanked detectives for their work and support throughout the ordeal.
“We’ve waited for this justice to be served for what’s felt like forever, and the assurance in knowing that this man can never take away from anyone else, what he has taken from us is a feeling you can’t describe,” she wrote.
