Jamie Lee Dolheguy jailed over killing her date in choke play sex act

Jamie Lee Dolheguy googled “I’m going to kill someone tonight for fun” as she waited for her date to arrive at her Sunbury home. Soon after he would be dead, strangled to death with her vibrator cord. Now she could be free from jail in just over three years.

A disturbed killer who strangled her online date with a vibrator cord during a choke play sex act could be freed back into the community in just over three years.

Jamie Lee Dolheguy — who once believed she was a werewolf — was sentenced in the Supreme Court on Thursday to nine years jail over the cold-blooded killing of Maulin Rathod, 24, at her Sunbury home on July 23, 2018.

But Justice Peter Almond set a non-parole period of five years and six months, meaning with time already served she will be eligible for release in January 2024.

“You took the life of a young person who had done nothing to harm or provoke you,” Justice Almond said.

“He was totally trusting and unsuspecting. He was an innocent victim.

“One can only imagine the terror he felt when he realised that despite his urgent tapping, you were not going to let go.”

Dressed in a cosplay Lolita outfit as she believed men “like how submissive it looks”, the court heard Dolheguy, 20, invited Mr Rathod to her house on the promise of sex after the pair met on dating app, Plenty of Fish.

While waiting for him to arrive she googled: “I’m going to kill someone tonight for fun”.

Her search history also uncovered she had typed in “I’m going to kill someone tonight help” and “I will kill someone tonight, I want to commit murder”.

At 8.01pm, he had arrived and soon after the pair agreed to take part in sexual “choke play”.

But when he tapped her to stop, she choked him harder, before strangling him with the cord to make sure he was dead.

Fifty-three minutes after he had arrived, Dolheguy called police and confessed to the killing.

“Eventually he stopped moving, and he just kept making breathing sounds, so I rolled him over onto his tummy and just wrapped the cord around his throat,” she said.

“I knew I was going to kill him if he came over.”

But a jury found Dolheguy was not guilty of murder, and instead convicted her on the lesser charge of manslaughter following an 18-day trial.

“Ms Dolheguy is not a murderer,” defence barrister Sharon Lacy had told the jurors.

“She’s a deeply troubled girl. A girl whose mind was a torrent of terrifying thoughts and emotions.”

The court heard Dolheguy had a troubled childhood and suffered from a severe personality disorder which prompted “sadistic tendencies” including enjoyment in harming people.

Justice Almond said this “significantly reduced” her moral culpability.

But he said nothing would take away the indescribable pain Mr Rathod’s parents Hiren and Jagruti Rathod had felt after losing their only child.

“They continue to grieve daily,” he said.

In a joint victim impact statement, the parents revealed how they could not go to work, lost their appetite, their memory and their faith in God.

“We are now 50 years old. Our son should be still with us at this age. But he’s gone forever,” they said.

“Maulin was (in Australia) for four years but he was a victim of that girl trapping him.

“I just hope that justice is served so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

Dolheguy’s lawyers had argued she should serve any time in youth detention so her rehabilitation can be a priority.

But Justice Almond ordered she remain in an adult prison.

Her more than two years on remand has been spent at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, the state’s women-only lockup facility.
