Detectives have seized a car in connection to the unsolved death of a loved dad left for dead on the side of the road in Horsham.

Jake Duncan, 24, had been out partying with friends at a local pub in the hours before his life ended early Sunday morning.

His friends told the Herald Sun he was a wonderful person who always made sure his friends got home safe.

Earlier that night he declined an offer to stay at his friend’s home, saying he had arranged a ride back to his home in Warracknabeal, about 40 minutes away.

It can be revealed a 47-year-old woman from the nearby locality of Riverside has been interviewed by police and a silver Ford Focus seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

She was released pending further inquiries and no charges have been laid.

Mr Duncan partied early into Sunday morning at the Royal Hotel in Horsham before moving on to nearby Wilson’s Nightclub, according to friends.

A female friend had offered him to crash at her place that night but he told her he had arranged a lift back home.

His severely injured body was found on Dooen Rd in Horsham about 5.50am that morning.

Mr Duncan, the father of a young boy, was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

His mate Daniel Watson said his death had “shocked the whole bloody town”.

“Everyone loves him. He is always there for you. Everyone liked Jake. He was always so happy,” he said.

Young father Jake Duncan, 24, has been described as a fun-loving bloke who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Mr Watson said the location his mate was found is about a 45 minute walk from the pub strip and few “would choose to walk that distance”.

Another friend Brooke Richards said Mr Duncan did not deserve to die, especially in such a heartless way.

“I feel his time wasn’t (now) and it was some sort of sick accident,” she said.

“He liked to have fun and party and be with his mates and family and be the light of the place.

“I just don’t know how God can take such a young life.”

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are keen to speak to anyone that may have been driving through Horsham or on Dooen Road between 4am and 6am Sunday morning.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
