Gangland widow Wendy Peirce makes return to courtroom

Although it’s less than two decades since Wendy Peirce’s hitman husband Victor was gunned down at the height of the gangland war, the widow’s newest alleged offences are a far cry from her colourful criminal past.

Gangland widow Wendy Peirce has had yet another day in court, with a magistrate suggesting she must be sick of the place by now.

Peirce – the widow of underworld hitman Victor Peirce, who was shot dead in 2002 – returned to the Melbourne Magistrates Court for a series of driving offences.

Once one of Victoria’s most colourful ladies Peirce is no stranger to a courtroom.

She last appeared before a magistrate in 2014 for parking offences, and before that in 2012 after she was busted stealing more than $600 worth of goods from an inner-city supermarket.

Today she admitted seven low-level speeding offences, dating from between 2015 to 2017.

The court heard she was suffering from anxiety and depression and found it difficult to concentrate on the road, meaning she regularly crept over the speed limit.

For each offence she was detected speeding less than 10kmh over the limit.

Placing her on a 12-month good behaviour bond, with conviction, magistrate Marita Altman told Peirce she surely must be tired of the courtroom by now.

“I take no offence to that,” Ms Altman said.

The court heard Peirce had struggled since the death of her daughter Katie in 2009.

Peirce was behind bars on an attempted murder charge when told of her daughter’s death.

Her husband, Victor, died after being shot dead in his car in Bay St, Port Melbourne, in 2002.
