A man has hurled an expletive-laden tirade at frontline police officers after he was asked to provide his driver’s licence in Melbourne’s southwest.
The unsavoury incident unfolded outside the man’s home in Point Cook on Wednesday in front of a mother and her young child.
Four police officers including one from the Public Order Response Team asked the man, who identifies himself as Robert, to produce a driver’s licence.
The context behind the intercept is unknown but in the footage one officer says the man was pulled over after driving on a nearby highway.
During the man’s vile four minute tirade he calls police “gutless cowards” as well as “paedophile protectors”.
“This is f--king harassment,” the man said.
“I don’t understand your laws and I don’t understand any of your sh-t.
“It is unlawful what you are doing. This will be going to my lawyer.
“Remember who you work for. You are supposed to work for us but youse (sic) don’t. You think you can intimidate. Wait until the public wake up and take youse (sic) on, then you will experience fear.”
It is illegal in Victoria to drive without a licence or to fail to produce a licence upon police request.
Victoria Police said: “The force is aware of a video circulation on social media where a man abuses police members after being intercepted driving a motor vehicle in Point Cook on Wednesday.”
“We remind all drivers that the Road Safety Act requires that they must state their name and address and produce their driver licence when requested to do so by a police officer.”
The investigation is ongoing.
