Three men have been charged after an aggravated carjacking in Fitzroy yesterday.

Chaos has erupted in Collingwood after heavily armed police opened fire and arrested three alleged carjackers in a dramatic standoff about 1pm yesterday.

In footage of the scene, exclusively obtained by the Herald Sun, several officers are seen engaging in the high-charged altercation before it was brought under control.

Police fired a number of shots at the allegedly stolen car after boxing it in with unmarked police vehicles in Little Oxford St at 1pm.

The trio allegedly threatened a man with a knife in Palmer St, Fitzroy, about 1.40am and stole his blue Holden wagon.

The victim of the carjacking, a 20-year-old Footscray man, was treated by paramedics at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

Melbourne Embona detectives later caught up with the trio in Collingwood.

Shocked residents looked on as the police boxed the stolen car in and fired a number of shots after the driver of the car tried to force the vehicle out.

A video taken by a local resident shows officers yelling instructions at the occupants of the car before the dramatic arrest.

The three men have been charged with several offences, including aggravated carjacking.

A20-year-old Maidstone man and an 18-year-old Hallam man were remanded in custody and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

A 17-year-old was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in a children’s court at a later date.
