An 89-year-old gunman was taken down in a dramatic citizen’s arrest after allegedly shooting a man at a construction site in Melbourne’s west on Wednesday morning.
The man was charged with intentionally causing serious injury and conduct endangering death following the incident in Ravenhall.
A 58-year-old Kurunjang man was shot in the upper body about 8.30am and was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.
Tradies described seeing the gunman get out of his truck and fire several shots at a man at the worksite on Rebecca Dr.
The shooter was then taken to the ground by witnesses who alerted police.
Police said the parties were known to each other.
Annette said her son was among the men to watch the shooting unfold.
“My son is working next door,” she told 3AW.
“He reckons this guy has pulled up in his truck, came out with a gun and said the guy owes him money and shot him twice in the arm.”
A crime scene has been established at the scene of the shooting.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a 59-year-old Melton man is being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper body.
“Workers on site restrained a man on scene until police arrived,” the spokeswoman said.
The 89-year-old shooter, from Ravenhall, is assisting Armed Crime detectives with their investigation.
“The exact circumstances surround the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing.”
