Children arrested after allegedly leading police on wild 150kmh chase

A 13-year-old boy was among a group of children who allegedly led police on a wild high-speed pursuit across 11 inner Melbourne suburbs.

Five children as young as 13 have led police on a high-speed pursuit through 11 Melbourne suburbs.

Detectives from Maribyrnong CIU made arrests in Epping on Saturday morning after the marathon chase, which began after police spotted a stolen car at the intersection of Ballarat Rd and Gordon St in Footscray at 3.20am.

It was followed out of Footscray then through North Melbourne, Brunswick, Brunswick East, Fitzroy, Carlton North and along Separation St in Northcote where it allegedly hit 150kmh.

A police helicopter then tracked it through Preston, Coburg, Fawkner and Epping before the those on board fled on foot at Cooper St.

Two boys and three girls were arrested at the scene.

A 15-year-old boy from Melbourne’s outer northwest will face seven charges, including theft, conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and other traffic offences.

He was remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court.

A boy, 13, has been charged with theft and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He was also remanded.

Girls aged 15 and 14 from Melbourne’s western suburbs were charged with theft and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

A 14-year-old girl from Melbourne’s northwest will receive a caution for theft.
