Ascot Vale street blocked off as suspicious device detonated
A suspicious package was detonated by Melbourne’s Bomb Response Unit on a residential Ascot Vale street after police were called when a resident came across the device.

The Bomb Response Unit has detonated a suspicious package found on a residential street in Ascot Vale.
Police were called in after the device was discovered on a nature strip in Woods St, in Melbourne’s inner northwest, about 4pm Tuesday.
As a precaution, the street was blocked off and an exclusion zone established as residents were kept indoors for several hours.
The Bomb Response Unit used its robot to get a closer look at the device. The device was then detonated.
There were no injuries or property damage.
It was not yet clear what the device was.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who have CCTV footage to come forward.
