A man has been arrested over a suspicious fire at the office of a lawyer who has represented drug baron Tony Mokbel and other underworld identities.
The blaze started early on Sunday morning at an East Melbourne property that is home to the legal practice of solicitor Stephen Andrianakis.
Mr Andrianakis has in the past acted for Mokbel and Mokbel’s ex-girlfriend Danielle Maguire.
The fire took hold of rubbish outside the door of the property on Lansdowne Street, near Victoria Parade.
It started about 2.40am and fire crews were on the scene in less than five minutes. The fire was under control at 2.45am.
“Firefighters remained on scene checking for any potential fire spread and to ensure the fire was fully extinguished, before handing the scene to Victoria Police,” Fire Rescue Victoria said.
Police said there were no injuries reported and the fire caused moderate damage to the property.
A 47-year-old Coburg man was arrested and said to be helping police with inquiries.
Earlier this year, Mr Andrianakis was part of a legal team acting for pregnant Ballarat woman Zoe Lee Buhler, who was arrested in her pyjamas at home over a social media post encouraging people to attend an anti-lockdown rally.
He also acted as defence lawyer for Abdullah El Nasher, who was charged with attempted murder over a shooting outside a Melbourne boxing event.
The Herald Sun does not suggest the fire had anything to do with these former clients.
