A woman will face court on Friday after an alleged stabbing frenzy in Moonee Ponds.
Police say the 46-year-old Kensington woman first slashed a 74-year-old man across his neck with a knife in a random attack on Puckle St in Moonee Ponds about 11am on Thursday.
Horrified shoppers fled from their shopping after witnessing the attack at the Reject Shop.
The woman then fled towards Hall St, before allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old cyclist while he rode his bike on Racecourse Rd in Kensington about 1pm.
The woman spent most of the afternoon on the run before police later found her at a house on Lambeth St in Kensington and took her to hospital under police guard.
She has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, stalking and intentionally causing injury.
The cyclist was treated for minor injuries in hospital.
The 74-year-old victim, from Avondale Heights, remains at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The random attack comes just a little over a year after a Puckle St stabbing frenzy put four people in hospital including a shop owner.
Thirty-six-year-old schizophrenia sufferer Daniel Clavell was charged with 30 offences following the August 2, 2023 incident.
He pleaded guilty to those charges in July and is due back in County Court this month.
