An elderly woman has been pushed to the ground in Melbourne’s north while fending off a bag snatcher wearing a hoodie with the slogan ‘build homes not prisons’.

An 89-year-old woman has been pushed to the ground in Melbourne’s north while fighting off a bag snatcher wearing a hoodie with the slogan “build homes not prisons”.

Victoria Police said the woman — who only lost her Myki card in the attack — was walking on Blair Street in Coburg when she was approached by the male offender about 10am on April 18.

“The offender attempted to grab the woman’s handbag and a struggle ensued during which the victim fell to the ground,” police said in a statement on Thursday.

“Her attacker continued to attempt to grab the handbag as the victim lay on the ground maintaining hold of her bag.

“The offender was unsuccessful and was last seen running towards Barrow Street with only the victims Myki card.”

The elderly woman escaped the attack uninjured.

Police said the man they are looking for is described as being caucasian in appearance, aged between 20 to 30, approximately 180cm tall, with a slim build.

Police said he was wearing a black hoodie with the slogan “build homes not prisons”.
