Why we may never know how many alleged victims accused daycare predator Joshua Brown actually has

More than 1200 children are undergoing testing for STIs now alleged child abuser Joshua Brown has been unmasked — but we may never know the real number of his alleged victims. Here’s why.

Childcare worker Joshua Brown, 26, has been charged with more than 70 offences including child rape.

The true number of victims of the accused childcare pedophile may never be known.

Joshua Dale Brown, 26, was this week publicly revealed as the accused childcare monster charged with over 70 offences including rape.

Results of the 1200 children who were urged to undergo testing for sexually transmitted diseases may lead police to potential further victims but there are no guarantees.

Police have so far identified eight of his alleged child victims — the youngest being just five months old — upon searching his electronic devices after a raid at his Point Cook home.

But it will likely never be known how many actual alleged victims Mr Brown has, as a portion of his actions may not have been filmed or recorded electronically.

Investigators are working to establish what percentage of his alleged offending they allegedly discovered on his devices in May.

It is possible other potential offences were not captured electronically and his victims would likely be too young to have known what occurred, therefore letting the 26-year-old go unreported.

There is also a possibility that other children do not return positive tests, even if they had been abused by Mr Brown.

There were also errors in the reported time frame Mr Brown worked at one centre for, which has seen more children required to undergo testing for STIs.

Police on Friday said they were still working with several childcare centres to determine exactly what dates he worked at them.

“This assessment is being completed by police as a priority,” a statement read.

“Once the assessment is completed, authorities will seek to inform the impacted parties directly and also update the government website.”

Chief operating officer at Shine Lawyers Jodie Willey said the scale of his alleged offending may never truly be known.

“It’s chilling to think what the full scale of this alleged offending could be and how many innocent young lives have been impacted,” she said on Friday.

“Victims so young often have no way of understanding what they’ve been through, let alone how to communicate it.

“The damage and trauma of child sexual abuse can take years – even decades – to become clear, and I truly hope the families impacted are getting the support they need.”

It shapes as another distressing and horrifying element to an already mortifying case.

The Herald Sun this week revealed the identity of the second man charged as part of the complex and painstaking police investigation.

Detectives were probing Michael Simon Wilson over the alleged rape of a teenage boy at Hoppers Crossing when they discovered Mr Brown’s plethora of alleged offending.

Sex crimes squad detectives moved urgently to arrest the childcare worker before he could return to work on a Monday morning.

Mr Wilson, 36, who is not a childcare worker but is known to Mr Brown, remains in police custody ahead of the pair’s court hearing in September.
