Video shows neo Nazis burning an Aboriginal flag and targeting Greens senator Lidia Thorpe

Disturbing footage shows a group of men setting an Aboriginal flag on fire as they share racist comments about a Greens senator.

A disturbing video showing neo-Nazis burning the Aboriginal flag and singling out a Victorian Greens senator has emerged online.

The video, posted by ‘Warriors of Convict Resistance’, shows three men in black burning the Aboriginal flag and features a handwritten note with a racial slur about Senator Lidia Thorpe.

The footage also shows the men doing Nazi salutes, with one of them declaring that “Australia is for the white man”.

Senator Thorpe said the existence of the video had been raised with the “relevant law-enforcement agencies”.

“We are aware that there is a very violent and distressing video circulating online,” she said.

“The rise of white supremacists and their ongoing threats to parliamentarians must be taken seriously.”

The Victorian parliament’s legal and social affairs committee is launching an inquiry into the threat of far-right extremism. The state is also working on new laws to ban the public display of Nazi symbols.

Last year, Australia’s spy agency, ASIO, said far-right extremism constituted around a third of its counter-terrorism workload.
