A police officer has been hit by an allegedly drug affected driver trying to flee a breath test site in Bacchus Marsh.
A 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly hitting the police officer after crashing through a breath test site on The Avenue of Honour around 8.25pm on Christmas Day.
Police said they first noticed the Ford Falcon ute pull up short of the site.
The vehicle then approached the site and was waved into a testing lane.
Police allege the driver then suddenly accelerated, striking an officer in the leg as he tried to jump out of the way.
Police lost site of the vehicle but it was discovered a short time later after a passer-by spotted a ute bogged in a paddock near Lord St.
A Wyndham Vale man was arrested at the scene where it was discovered he was driving while disqualified.
He underwent a breath-test, returning an alleged reading of .035 and also tested positive to methylamphetamine.
He was charged with 17 offences including disqualified driving, drink driving and endangering an emergency services worker with vehicle.
Police said the struck officer was lucky to escape with minor injuries.
They are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with CCTV/dashcam footage that may have come across this vehicle, particularly along the “The Avenue of Honour” between the Western Freeway off-ramp between and Lord Street or along McGrath Street.
