Police are seeking the public’s help to find a man who allegedly broke into Flemington Racecourse hours before the Melbourne Cup to pour an oil-like substance on to the track.
Footage emerged on the morning of Cup Day of the mystery substance being strewn over the track, and police have released a computer-generated image of a man who may be able to assist with their investigation.
Another photo of a distinctive trailer with a large oil tank, hose and pump used during the incident have been released.
The damaged section of the track could fortunately be adjusted to ensure Melbourne Cup day could proceed, but the affected patch had to be removed and re-sod with fresh turf so the horses and jockeys were not in danger.
The track saboteur is still yet to be found and police are appealing for any information that could help to locate him or assist with their inquiries.
