Stunned shoppers have watched on as two stolen cars full of teenagers crashed at speed in the car park at The Glen Shopping Centre.

Shocking dashcam footage shows a white Nissan X Trail being T-boned at speed by a black Jeep, before groups of teenagers flee the wrecked vehicles.

The crash occurred around 10:40pm on Friday in a car park at the Glen Waverley shopping centre, dangerously close to other late night shoppers.

The footage shows one of the teens involved briefly collapsing in the car park as those involved run right past him.

Police say that the white Nissan was stolen from Clyde North earlier that day and the Jeep was stolen from Korumburra in the days prior to the crash.

The parties involved fled the scene before police arrived leaving the smashed vehicles, with police believing the parties to be known to each other.

Victoria’s shocking statistics, released last week, confirmed the state was dealing with its worst crime rate on record, with top cops labelling them “totally unacceptable”.

Car thefts rose by 41 per cent and crimes committed by 10-17 year-olds rose by 16 per cent – both record highs.

Herald Sun analysis also revealed car thefts in Victoria soared over the past decade by more than 53 per cent.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Bob Hill said the release of the data must be a “line in the sand moment”.

“As a society, we simply cannot tolerate this level of offending … the community deserves more,” Mr Hill said.

Premier Jacinta Allan earlier this month announced a ban on machetes and tough new bail laws, with judges and magistrates ordered to put community safety first.

“We got it wrong, and I’m standing here as the premier today having listened to the Victorian community,” Ms Allan said.

The investigation into the Glen Waverley incident remains ongoing with anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppers.com.au.
