A woman is fighting for life after a collision on the West Gate Freeway on Sunday night.
A Honda Odyssey van, carrying seven people, is believed to have clipped the back of another car heading towards the city about 6pm.
The driver of the Honda then lost control, slamming into the barrier.
Paramedics were called to the scene about 6.10pm and six people were taken to hospital, including a woman in her 40s who was in a critical condition.
Another two women, in their 50s, were taken to The Alfred and are both in stable condition, while two other women, in their 50s and 60s, were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in stable condition.
One man in his 20s was also taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
The collision caused a traffic standstill, which delayed drivers on the West Gate Bridge for up to an hour.
Traffic across all the inbound lanes was further banked up on Sunday evening, with multiple lanes closed heading into the city as the major collision investigation unit processed the scene.
The family car could be seen with serious damage on the bridge before it was cleared by emergency services.
Police are yet to speak to the driver of the van as she is receiving medical treatment.
