Three Bandidos OMCG bosses arrested, charged after bashing in Geelong pub

One of three Bandidos bikies charged over a bashing at a Geelong pub was the victim of a clubhouse shooting, while footage played in court has revealed the moment the pub brawl erupted.

Bandidos charged over alleged Geelong assault

A Bandidos bikie charged over a Geelong pub bashing was shot last month.

Matthew Rizzo, 29, is one of three men police say are Bandidos office-bearers who have been charged over an incident in which two men were attacked at the James St pub.

It comes as dramatic CCTV footage captured the moment a casual drink at the pub involving the three Bandidos bikies turned into a vicious bashing, leaving the two men with severe injuries, including bite marks and partial facial paralysis.

Footage played to the Melbourne’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday showed the three senior patched members chatting with their alleged victims at a James St pub on Oct 23, before tensions escalated and a full-on attack ensued.

One of the victims could be seen being grabbed by the hood of his sweater before he was flung to the floor, smashing his head on a table.

He was then punched repeatedly in the face and kicked twice in the head while unconscious on the floor.

The court heard that the man suffered a broken nose, facial fractures and nerve damage causing partial facial paralysis as a result of the attack.

The second victim was also repeatedly punched, and was left with numerous injuries, including a bite mark to his cheek.

The three outlaw motorcycle gang members — Matthew Rizzo, Melbourne chapter president Toby Elvey and Melbourne road captain Marty Albert — were arrested on Wednesday morning.

Mr Rizzo, from the Ballarat suburb of Winter Valley, made no application for bail on Wednesday after being charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing serious injury, common law assault, affray, failing to answer bail, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon and cannabis possession.

He is allegedly the outlaw motorcycle gang’s sergeant-at-arms for the Ballarat chapter.

Rizzo was shot on October 1 as Bandidos from around Australia converged on Ballarat for their annual run.

He was wounded in an early morning incident near the gang’s Delacombe clubhouse.

Rizzo made his own way to hospital and is believed to have been unhelpful with investigators trying to get to the bottom of the matter.

He was remanded to appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on February 7.

Mr Albert, 44, from Maribyrnong, and his co-accused Mr Elvey, 41, were granted bail in a late night hearing on Wednesday.

The court heard that Mr Elvey was on bail at the time of the attack, while police found an imitation handgun at his Pascoe Vale home.

He faces charges including intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, assault, affray, two counts of committing an indictable offence on bail and handling stolen goods.

Meanwhile, Mr Albert was charged with common law assault, affray and possession of methamphetamine.

They were bailed and ordered to appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on February 13.

The Bandidos have come under police scrutiny this year amid claims of violence associated with gang in-fighting.

Last month a Bandidos Ballarat sergeant-at-arms was shot during the club’s annual three-day ride to the goldfields city.

The incident was believed to have happened near the group’s Delacombe clubhouse, with the 29-year-old Sebastopol man hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said at the time that he was a sergeant-at-arms with the OMCG.

It is not clear whether the friction is linked to an attack on a Wendouree man who was almost bashed to death two weeks later.

Investigations into both matters remain ongoing.
