Six boys have been charged – and bailed – following a high speed chase through Melbourne’s western suburbs in a stolen car.
Police allege a stolen white Mazda 6 sedan was driving erratically, reaching speeds of more than 150km/h in a 60km zone, in Tarneit about 9.30pm on Thursday night.
The Mazda was allegedly seen speeding through a red light on Hummingbird Boulevard and was reportedly involved in a near miss with a pedestrian on Thames Boulevard.
The occupants of the Mazda were allegedly seen dumping the vehicle near Fragrance Terrace in Manor Lakes, before taking off on foot.
A short time later police arrested seven boys. No injuries were reported.
Police allege the Mazda was stolen from a Truganina address earlier this month.
Three 16-year-old Tarneit boys, a 17-year-old Tarneit boy, a 16-year-old Truganina boy and a 16-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy were all charged with theft of a motor vehicle and various traffic offences.
The six boys were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
A seventh boy, a 16-year-old from Truganina, was issued with a caution.
