Three teenage girls have been charged after crashing an allegedly stolen car into a fire hydrant, causing flooding chaos for local business owners in Sandringham on Saturday morning.
It is alleged the trio were driving a stolen black Audi along Beach Road before ramming the vehicle into a fire hydrant at about 8am.
Water was projected about 20m into the air next to the Sandringham Hotel on Beach Rd.
Two police cars attended the scene as traffic was diverted around the spill.
The crash caused a significant amount of water to spill into a nearby pub and underground car park with the girls continuing to drive before allegedly dumping the Audi on Campbell Street and fleeing on foot.
The three were arrested a short time later.
A 14-year-old Hampton girl, 15-year-old Dandenong girl and 16-year-old Black Rock girl have been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
