A man has been shot streets away from where gangland figure Afghan Ali was killed earlier this month.
The incident happened on Surrey Rd, close to the bustling Chapel St night-life precinct about 6.15am on Sunday.
A 38-year-old South Yarra man was rushed to The Alfred hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
A 42-year-old South Yarra man is assisting police with their investigation.
Investigators believe it was a targeted shooting and both parties were known to each other.
Police gathered evidence from the scene on Sunday.
Mohammed Kestiar, known in underworld circles as “Afghan Ali”, died in a hail of bullets in a drive-by shooting on August 5.
No-one has been charged with his murder.
