A snorkeller has died after an evening swim turned to tragedy on the Mornington Peninsula.
Emergency services were called to Portsea after reports of two snorkellers in trouble in the water about 8.10pm on Sunday.
One man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
It’s believed an air ambulance was flown to the area and paramedics tried to resuscitate him but the man could not be revived.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed the second snorkeler, a man in his 40s was taken to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition, for observation.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a man in Portsea on Sunday, 17 December,” he said.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined but the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
