A stolen car used as a getaway vehicle in an early morning shoot-up in Richmond has been found burnt-out about 130km away.

Stone and benchtop business Aldo Brodic was peppered with bullets in the early hours of Thursday morning.

At about 3.10am, five shots were fired from the rear driver’s side window into the store from a stolen Subaru, before it sped west along Swan St toward the city.

It was then found burnt out in the Gippsland town of Moe about 6am.

Several large bullet holes were plastered through two front windows and glass was shattered all over the footpath.

No one was inside at the time and there were no injuries.

It appears to be the work of a high-powered shotgun fired just metres from the windows as the impact was confined to a smaller area.

Fragments of the shotgun casings were left inside the store on Thursday.

Aldo Brodic chief executive Ali Baygan said his business had been dominating the market and was unsure why it was shot up.

“We moved in here two years ago, we try to do the honest business, we’re winning the jobs,” he said at the scene.

“We didn’t expect it, it has saddened us but we’ll deal with that, it’s not a big deal.

“I think we’re doing the right things, we’re getting a lot of jobs and winning contracts.

“We are going in the right track and we will continue what we are doing.”

Detective Sergeant Tom Roberts added the owners of the business had no known links to organised crime, including the ongoing tobacco turf war.

“We don’t know who the offenders are and we’re working on what the motive might’ve been,” he said.

“It was a shotgun with heavy loaded ammunition.”

He said nearby residents were left shaken.

“They were shocked… disturbing on a few fronts, firstly that people are driving around Melbourne with shotguns,” he added.

“And secondly that they’re willing to discharge them at a public place like that.

“I can’t stress enough the dangers of firing shotguns in the streets of Melbourne.”

Nearby resident Ollie Sanderson said he heard a series of shots just metres from his home.

“I just heard three or four really loud bangs in the middle of the night,” he said.

“It’s pretty frightening, it’s a bit of a shock being at the end of the street.

“I’ve literally never experienced anything as bad as a shooting.

“We were all asleep to it was pretty startling in the middle of the night.”

A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.
